Forget Yesterday…Live For Today! – Week 18

If you knew today would be your last day on earth, would you dwell on the happenings of the past?

One of our assignments this past week has been to pick up a newspaper everyday, select an obituary, read it and ask ourselves 3 questions when finished.

Question #1 – What would that person give to change places with me and have one more day?

Question #2 – Who can I let know how grateful I am for their presence today if it is my last?

Question #3 – How will I behave today to finish the masterpiece of my life elegantly?

This is some pretty heavy stuff….seriously. Can you imagine knowing today would be the last day of your life? The past would mean absolutely nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada.

“I will live this day as if it is my last.” As Og Mandino writes in “The Greatest Salesman in the World”. “Can I take back the evil that was spoken, the blows that were struck, the pain that was caused? No. Yesterday is buried forever and I will think of it no more.”

Our teachers have suggested that us Master Key “students” give thanks for our past, even the parts of it that we perceive as negative. Gratitude is a cause not an effect.

What does that mean?

It means we can choose to give thanks for what we have and everything that has happened to us in our lives…..OR, we wrongfully believe once we have that new car, big fancy house, or millions in the bank that will we be happy and grateful.

Tom Shadyac has a lot to say on this subject of happiness. Tom was the creator of the popular Jim Carrey movies such as Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, and Bruce Almighty. Tom is widely known for his success in Hollywood, but his take on happiness may surprise you.

Continue to pursue your dreams daily as if today is your last and give thanks along the way!
